Training Young Apprentices

Meet Joe who is 23 years old and lives locally! Joe is one of 17 young apprentices that are taking part in our training scheme for young people. Thanks to receiving funding from the European Social Fund Joe and many others are gaining skills and experience within our community sports programme. Some of the skills involve communication, planning, delivery and assisting in the many sports activities taking place on the Park. In return they are given the opportunity to enrol on a Level One NGB Coaching Course of their choice along with other training such as first aid and safeguarding. This has greatly improved those taking part in finding suitable employment in the future. Some of the apprentices will join our casual coaching staff for the summer which is fantastic.

I am very interested in sport as I play football on a regular basis. I have found the team at Pelican very helpful and have learnt a lot. It has also helped me improve my skills and make new friends. I would recommend anyone to join the scheme if you have an interest in sports or wish to improve your future chances of getting employment. It’s been great fun and I would like to stay and help out in the future.

If you are aged 18-25 years, would like to become a qualified coach or even just gain experience and skills like Joe then please call 01482-703114 or pop into the Community Office and meet the team.
